During our son Glenn Jr's freshman year of college, we attended the family weekend. We arrived at the opening session of the event and were directed to park on a field near the building that was turned into temporary parking because of the large number of cars. I remember thinking that the field seems pretty wet from the rain the night before but we parked the minivan and went to the parent session.
David Crowder was the main event that night and we had a change in plans that left us needing one additional ticket to the concert. We snuck out of the parent session a few minutes before it ended so that we could zip over to the concert venue and purchase a ticket before they sold out.
We got to the car and were horrified to find out that our tires were getting stuck in the soft ground and we could not get out of our parking spot. Glenn senior hopped out of the car and told me to turn the wheels and rock the car back and forth as he was pushing from behind to try to get us moving in the field.
At that very moment, Ben starting singing a song he learned in Sunday School based on Psalm 40 “I waited patiently for the Lord and He heard my cry, He lifted me up out of the miry clay and set my feet upon the rock” and right then with a final push we were on our way zipping through the field heading towards the paved road as Glenn Sr. ran behind the car encouraging me not to stop. The Holy Spirit was working overtime that morning and I’ll always treasure how that song came from Ben’s lips at the perfect moment for encouragement.
Love you more,
Mom
